Group Chief Engineer & Architect at Absa

Nigel Mangwanda is the Group Chief Engineer and Architect at Absa. He leads the definition and stewardshipof the bank’s enterprise architecture, partnering with the Group’s technology executives to set architecturaldirection and convert strategic ambition into measurable business impact.
He holds a defining belief: that the true measure of technology is felt, not seen. It lives in the moment acustomer is served faster, understood more deeply, or empowered to do something they couldn't do before. This principle guides every decision, investment and initiative. For Nigel, the most sophisticated technologyis ultimately worthless if it doesn't make someone's life measurably better.
Beyond technology, Nigel is deeply committed to people – building high-performing teams and cultivatingenvironments where innovation can thrive. He approaches leadership as a responsibility to create clarity, inspire purpose and drive meaningful change across organizations and industries.
Nigel is a committed lifelong learner who invests deliberately in both formal education and continuous self-development. He holds a BTech in Information Technology, a Postgraduate Diploma in BusinessManagement and an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science. He has further strengthened hisexecutive perspective through the Senior Executive Programme at Harvard Business School and theAdvanced Management Programme at IMD Business School in Switzerland.
On his bedside table right now are books exploring leadership, design thinking and the future of technology.
